Resolutions

Resolution 2008-01: Resolution Against Gambling in Ohio

This resolution calls for the conference to encourage efforts to actively oppose any constitutional amendment that legalizes gambling/gaming and to further education and discussions about the Social Principles statement on gambling.

Submitted by Dan Bryant and Rich Aronson.  The resolution was adopted by the necessary 2/3’s vote.

Resolution 2008-02: Support for Council of Bishop's "Resolution on the War
in Iraq"

This resolution called for the conference to support the Council of Bishop’s “Resolution on the War In Iraq” and to engage in discussions regarding its ramifications.
Submitted by Dan Bryant and Rich Aronson.  The resolution was not adopted by the necessary 2/3’s vote. 

Resoultion 2008-3: Support for Fair Trade and the UMCOR 100 Ton Challenge

This resolution challenges the conference to help farmers earn fair prices for crops.  The 12 month campaign encourages purchase of coffee, tea, chocolate and snacks through the UMCOR Coffee Project and partner Equal Exchange.

Resolution 2008-04: Youth Participation on Church Committees

This resolution encourages churches are encouraged to include youth representatives in their committees, boards, worship services and events.

Resolution 2008-5:  YSF Sunday
This resolution asks the conference to hold a special offering one Sunday every year, conference wide to support the Youth Service Fund.

Referred  to Council on Finance and Administration.  Chair, David Wilcox brought an amendment; Line 26 change designate to encourage.  Amended.  Resolution supported.

Resolution 2008:6: Plastic-Free Week

This resolution encourages recycling at both youth and annual conference, recycling in local churches and a plastic-free week, where all participating churches will avoid the purchase and use of plastics.

Resoultion 2008-7: Cancer Awareness Event EOC 2009
This resolution asks for support of a cancer awareness event in conjunction with Health and Welfare Ministry and the annual conference program committee to take place during Annual Conference 2009.

Resolution 2008-08: Youth Support for Education Funding Reform
This resolution asks both the annual and youth annual conference to continue advocacy efforts for education and educational funding reform.
