Personal Information: 

Born:  December 1, 1945
Married:  Elaine M. Smithson, September 4, 1964
Children:  Nathan, Zachary and Benjamin
Grandchildren: Granddaughters

Education and Honors: 

Hopkins received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Indiana University, a Master of Divinity from Yale Divinity School.  He completed a Wheelock Residency at Dartmouth College focusing on hospital, campus and parish ministry.

Ministry

Bishop Hopkins served the Minnesota Annual Conference from 1996-2004.  Other positions he has held include: serving as the pastor of The Methodist Temple in Evansville, Indiana, director for the North Indiana Conference Council on Ministries in Marion and as Campus Minister at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.  He became an Ordained Deacon in 1972 and an Elder in 1975.

Member: 

Bishop Hopkins has served on numerous committees including the North Central Jurisdiction Council on Ministries and the North Central Jurisdiction Leadership Development Committee. He was a General Conference Delegate in 1984, 1988 and 1996. Hopkins serves on the committee for the Anne Frank Exhibit and the Holocaust Memorial Committee.

Other: 

He has led mission work teams to various places including Mexico, Johns Island and Tampa.  He has led mission trips to Korea, Japan and Zimbabwe among others.  Hopkins enjoys playing tennis, running, cross-country skiing and playing guitar.
