Bishop L. Jonathan Holston

Bishop L. Jonathan Holston is the resident bishop of the South Carolina Annual Conference.  He was assigned there in 2012, after being elected to the episcopacy on the first ballot of that year’s Southeastern Jurisdictional Conference. 

For seven years before his election, Holston served as senior pastor of St. James United Methodist Church in Atlanta.  His previous appointments include serving as superintendent of the Atlanta-Decatur-Oxford District (1997-2005), associate director of the North Georgia Conference Council on Ministries (1992-1997), senior pastor of Clifton UMC (1986-1992), and senior pastor of Marietta Street UMC (1983-1986).

Holston has served on numerous boards and committees of The United Methodist Church and as a delegate to General Conference (2000, 2004, 2008 and 2012), Jurisdictional Conference (1996, 2000, 2004, 2008 and 2012) and the World Methodist Conference (2001 and 2005).

He was chair of General Conference Finance and Administrative Legislative Committee and a member of – to name a few – General Council on Finance and Administration, General Board of Global Ministries, and the United Methodist Committee on Relief. His love for missions has taken him to Uganda, Costa Rica, Haiti, Honduras, Zimbabwe, Kenya, India, China and Hong Kong.

Holston earned his Master of Divinity in Biblical Studies from The Interdenominational Theological Center, Gammon Theological Seminary in Atlanta, Ga.  He also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Religion from the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga.

He and wife Felecia are parents of an adult son and an adult daughter.
