Education and Honors:
Hopkins received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Indiana University, a Master of Divinity from Yale Divinity School. He completed a Wheelock Residency at Dartmouth College focusing on hospital, campus and parish ministry.
Ministry:
Bishop Hopkins served the Minnesota Annual Conference from 1996-2004. Other positions he has held include: serving as the Senior Pastor of The Methodist Temple in Evansville, Indiana; Director for the North Indiana Conference Council on Ministries in Marion, Indiana; Campus Minister at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana; and as Pastor at a two-point charge near LaPorte, Indiana. He was ordained a Deacon in 1972 and an Elder in 1975.

Bishop Hopkins currently serves as Chairperson of the Connectional Table that is responsible for the discernment and articulation of the vision for the church and the stewardship of the mission, ministries, and resources of The United Methodist Church. He has served on the General Council on Ministries, the United Methodist Publishing House, the North Central Jurisdiction Council on Ministries and the North Central Jurisdiction Leadership Development Committee. He was a General Conference Delegate in 1984, 1988 and 1996.
Other:
He has led mission work teams to various places including Mexico, Johns Island, Tampa and Key West. He has led mission trips to Korea, Japan and Zimbabwe, Sierra Leone and Liberia. Hopkins enjoys technology, playing tennis, running, and playing guitar.
