A Message from Gary George - The work of the Finance and Administration Committee

Laferty is chair of the Conferences Committee. This committee receives all petitions and resolutions relating to the composition and activities of the General, jurisdictional, annual, provisional, missionary and district conferences. Laferty is one of the youngest delegates to serve in a legislative committee leadership committee.

"Committee work can be arduous, even painful. Committee work is sometimes called 'Methodist sausage,' it tastes good but you do not want to see it made. I am honored by the committee's confidence in my leadership as chairperson," Laferty said.
Trimble is chair of the Church and Society 1 Committee. This committee will receive all petitions and resolutions relating to the work and concerns of the Board of Church and Society and the Social Principles, with the exception of paragraphs in The Book of Discipline dealing with the nurturing community and the social community.

Jerry Rinehart is serving as chair of the subcommittee on family life in Church and Society #2. This will be the third time he has served on this committee which deals with issues such as abortion, sexuality, climate, etc.

George is vice-chair of the Finance and Administration Committee. This committee receives all petitions and resolutions relating to the work and concerns of the Council on Finance and Administration, the Board of Pension and Health Benefits, and the United Methodist Publishing House. The budget and recommendations prepared by the General Council on Finance and Administration shall be submitted to this committee for study and review. Thereafter, when the General Council on Finance and Administration presents its report to the General Conference for action, the committee shall present its recommendations and may propose amendments.

Jackson is serving as secretary to the Global Ministries: All petitions and resolutions relating to the work and concerns of the Board of Global Ministries shall be referred to this committee.

No other conference has four persons elected to legislative committee leadership.

No action is final until taken by the General Conference in plenary session which is expected to begin early next week.
