Igniting Ministry
Matching Grants
Grants are
available for Igniting
Ministry Evangelism and Media efforts
Grants are available for churches
that are focusing their efforts on welcoming and inviting guests
through Igniting Ministry. The grants, ranging from $500 to $2,500,
are available through the conference Board of Communication’s Radio
and Television Committee.
“I am excited for this new
opportunity that we have to extend these grants to those churches
that are seeking to become stronger and bolder in their ministry and
have a desire to develop stronger and more mature disciples in
Christ,” said Steve Partridge, chairman of the Radio and Television
Committee.
Igniting Ministry is the evangelism
and media effort first introduced to the United Methodist Church at
General Conference 2000. The campaign helps the local church to
reach out, especially targeting people 25-54 years old. The purpose
of Igniting Ministry is to proclaim the gospel as we reach these
goals:
-
To increase awareness and
recognition of The United Methodist Church's basic beliefs;
-
To foster among nonmembers a
positive feeling and willingness to visit a United Methodist
church; and
-
To renew a sense of commitment in
United Methodists.
Commercials alone cannot raise
awareness significantly; only a concentration of time and effort
will achieve the objective that is primary to the others -- to make
disciples of Christ. Igniting Ministry is an undertaking of the
whole church, not a quick fix.
East Ohio Conference Grants allocated
in 2007 must be used within the calendar year, preferably in
conjunction with the national back-to-school and advent campaigns.
Grants will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Churches
must have held a training event in their
local church provided by a certified Igniting Ministry Trainer.
There are 15 Igniting Ministry trainers in East Ohio.
