COMING HOME
RETURNING FROM WAR

Never stop praying for our military and for our leaders. There is great power in prayer.
Call military families on the phone and check in on them from time-to-time
Offer special discounts for families of military personnel at children and youth events at the church. Many families are living on significantly less while their soldier is receiving military pay rather than civilian pay.
If you are handy, volunteer your time doing odd jobs for a military family (i.e. mow the grass, trim the bushes, put up Christmas lights, etc.)
Send a care package to soldiers. For ideas visit: http://www.anysoldier.com/
Send soldiers letters, emails, CDs, DVDs.
After a soldier returns home, remember that the transition period is difficult for all members of the family. Continue to pray and offer support, food preparation
Start a jobs bulletin board at the church letting veterans know what job prospects are available. Also assist Vets with creating resumes and cover letters
Be available. Listen with an open heart
Consider starting a support group at your local church for military personnel and families
If you are a Vet, take younger Vets under your wing. Help them through the maze of paperwork for college, compensation, mental health, medical and dental benefits, VA Home loans.
