Annual Conference 2009
The 40th session of East Ohio Annual Conference will be held June 15 – 18 at Lakeside. The 2009 theme is “Be Transformed -- Transform our Hearts, Transform our Minds, Transform our Doors.” Featured speakers will include Bishop Lindsey Davis of the Louisville Area, Bishop Jonathan D. Keaton of the Michigan Area, and Rev. Nancy Hull, president and chief executive officer of Flat Rock Homes and Care Center.
Bishop Lindsey Davis was assigned to The Louisville Area effective Sept. 1, 2008. He was elected to the episcopacy in July 1996 from the Kentucky Conference and was assigned to the North Georgia Area, where he served for 12 years. Bishop Davis has served on the General Council on Ministries (1996-2000) and served as director of the General Board of Global Ministries and president of the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) (2000-2004). He is currently president of the General Council on Finance and Administration and serves as the vice president of Emory University Board of Trustees, a member of the Robert W. Woodruff Health Sciences Center Board of Emory University, and as chair of PATH1, the denominational new-church-planting emphasis.
Bishop Jonathan D. Keaton is no stranger to the East Ohio Conference as he served as the Episcopal leader for eight years prior to his assignment to the Michigan Area of the United Methodist Church in 2004. Keaton was elected to the episcopacy in 1996. Prior to that, he served as a District Superintendent in the Northern Illinois Conference. He was a member of the conference staff responsible for monitoring the church’s stand on social issues, providing support and encouragement for ethnic local churches and promoting spiritual formation. Keaton also has served churches in Chicago and Rockford, Ill. He was a teaching assistant at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, where he earned a Master’s of Divinity and Doctorate in Sacred Theology. Keaton teaches in numerous conference Schools of Christian Mission. Currently, Keaton chairs the denomination’s Strengthening the Black Church for the 21st Century Committee.
Rev. Nancy S. Hull is a graduate of Cleveland State University with a B.A. in Sociology, and Methodist Theological School of Ohio with a Master’s of Divinity degree. She completed a post-graduate program at the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland. In 2006, Hull received the John and Ruth Mount Alumni Award for “Excellence in Specialized Ministry” from the Methodist Theological School of Ohio. In 2008, Hull received the “2008 Administrator of the Year” Award for Administrators of United Methodist agencies serving Children, Youth and Families, awarded March, 2008 in Orlando, Fla. by the United Methodist Association.

Youth Annual Conference
Fun! Inspiring! Exciting! Surprising! These words describe YAC 09! It is sure to be a highlight of the year for all youth groups! Using the theme “Treasure Beyond Measure,” based on Matthew 6:19-21, we will journey through the weekend as we strengthen our relationship with Jesus Christ, the church, and each other. From the hustle and bustle of Cedar Point to the sound of singing at Lakeside, YAC 09 will be a significant spiritual experience for youth groups. Our focus on leadership continues as delegates elect leaders for the coming year and voice their opinions on legislation that affects their lives.
YAC worship will be different this year. While the great tradition of the Candle Walk continues, regular YAC attendees will see changes in our other worship experiences. A key participant in worship for the weekend is Mile Lewis, the Jesus Painter (www.jesuspainter.com). And Sunday morning will be a wonderful showcase of the faith of our youth as they share their talents and gifts in worship.
