LAITY
Lay Leaders

The district lay leader is the elected leader of all the laity of the district. The primary function of the district lay leader is to be an advocate for the laity and for the ministry of laity. The lay leader supports local church lay leaders and fosters awareness of the role of the laity within the local church.
Training for local church leaders is planned by the district laity board and lay leader in each district. The lay leader also brings new ideas to the district from participation in the conference Laity Board.
District lay leaders model a shared ministry role for laity and clergy as the lay leader works in partnership with the District Superintendent in the total ministry of the district.
Lay leaders relate to lay speakers, lay leaders, lay members of Annual Conference, UMM, UMW, youth, and young adults.
