“So then let’s also run the race that is laid out in front of us, since we have such a great cloud of witnesses surrounding us. Let’s throw off any extra baggage, get rid of the sin that trips us up, and fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith.”
Hebrews 12:1-2a, Common English Bible
For many people, Mid Ohio means “race track.” Fair enough. It is a beautiful facility and draws racing fans from many places around the country.
In the East Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church The Mid Ohio District is a region, and a group of churches filled with Christian disciples stretching from Ashland to Mansfield to Delaware along I-71 through rolling farmlands and west along US-30 and SR-95 into the beginning of Ohio’s plains. This is a beautiful area, rich in land and history. Our church buildings and the communities in which they are placed tell the story of years of faith. Beautiful frame, brick, and stone buildings brim with the prayers of decades. We are surrounded with a great cloud of witnesses.
But we, too, are in a race, in running the course laid out before us by Jesus. This is no stroll through the park or Sunday drive. We are racing--hearts pumping, muscles aching, engines roaring--to carry on the work of Jesus. It is hard work to make disciples, share our faith, change lives, embrace grace. Time to jettison the baggage of differences, resolve sins of pride and anger, and get on with the race.
Join us. Work alongside us. Pray among us. This is our district, our history, our faith home, our race course for Christ. This is our Mid Ohio.
