Just ask! Volunteers on short notice spend a day doing mission work for a friend
On Thursday morning, Rev. Dan Bryant rose on the floor of annual conference and asked for volunteers who would be willing to join him, job coordinator George Schreckengost and project coordinator Jan Yandell for a day of mission at the home of Elaine Weaver. Elaine’s husband, Walt Weaver, was the only active clergyperson to die over the past year and the home he and Elaine were building for his retirement in 4 years was not nearly livable for Elaine.
With short notice, volunteers which included 14 clergy and 20 spouses converged on the property at 8 AM on July 3rd. Windows were put in place, stairs were built, wall boards were removed, mowing, clearing, cleaning and hauling firewood all happened in a seven hour work day that saw miracles happen both inside and outside the barn-like structure.
Elaine, her daughter Judy, her father George Schreckengost and Walt’s mother, Ruth shared in the day with direction, work and luncheon food.
The Dixons from the Lisbon UMC prepared much of the lunch for all and God provided a beautiful day!! Everyone kept busy sensing the Holy Spirit surrounding the project with God’s power and love.
As Paul wrote to the church in Galatia:
“So let us not grow weary in doing what is right for we will reap at harvest time, if we do not give up. So then, whenever we have an opportunity, let us work for the good of all, and especially for those of the family of faith.” - Galatians 6:9-10
Thanks for all who did not grow weary!!!
