A Note from the General Council on Finance and Administration

We have now reached the midyear point of 2010, and I want to thank you and the members of the local churches within your annual conferences for continued faithful support of the general Church apportioned funds. 

Through this faithful support of the connectional system we are able to provide ministries throughout the world.  Even though there continue to be economic challenges in many places, you are witnesses to the abundance of God’s grace and resources to reach out to help other people in need as we seek to build the kingdom of God on this earth. 

Year‐to‐date giving to the seven apportioned funds is up over 8% in total from the same period in 2009.  In addition, each of the seven funds is running ahead of 2009 on a percentage paid basis.  I also want to note the significant giving to UMCOR, much of which is related to relief efforts in Haiti.  I am renewed when I see our members respond to situations of extreme need related to disasters, even though they may be experiencing need in their own situation or community.
