New church start preacher goes bald!

David Ritters beforeOrchard Path’s pastor is feeling a little drafty these days, not from the cool damp weather of autumn but by the lack of hair on his head!  Rev. David Rittgers recently challenged his “New Start” congregation to raise $2,000 for the Nothing But Nets campaign, (www.nothingbutnets.net).  For each $10 donated a bednet could be purchased to prevent malaria carrying mosquitoes from biting and infecting young children with the deadly disease.

The challenge came to an end at the worship service on Sunday, September 12. Since the challenge on August 1, the congregation raised $2,100. Church attendee and manager of Great Clips in Broadview Heights, Jewel Johnson raised another $100 for NBN during the service by asking worshipers to contribute on the spot. A donation of $5 got people the chance to have their initials (briefly) carved into the side of Rittgers’ head! David Rittgers initialsDavid Rittgers shavec

In total, the Orchard Path congregation raised just over $2,200 for Nothing But Nets.

“Not too shabby for our new congregation,” said Rittgers. “Plus the shaved head is giving me a new opportunity to tell people what/why we did it and let them know more about our growing church. People seem to be noticing me for some odd reason. - its almost like when you have a newborn baby - suddenly, people want to talk to you!”

Donations will purchase over 220 nets!
