$75,000 Challenge for Urban Mission
The Urban Mission, Steubenville, OH has received a $75,000 grant for a much needed new roof and kitchen.
The first $75,000 is a challenge for the second half of the money, for a total of $150,000. This is over and above normal operating costs. It is a difficult time to ask for money.
I would not be a good steward, if I did not ask for your help. The roof has needed repair for over three years. We are in a position now to ask for help. The kitchen needs to be redesigned and remodeled. We have been making and serving 15,000 to 17,000 hot meals annually for over 12 years. The counter tops, cupboards, plumbing, electric and ceiling need to be replaced. The cost is approximately $25,000.
Our hope is that churches, friends, Sunday school classes, youth groups, individuals and school groups can help with donations. The work accomplished by the Urban Mission for the sake of the Gospel and for our community is significant.
It is so much easier to ask for support for Thanksgiving dinner, Christmas presents and clothes for the homeless shelter than to ask for money to fix the roof and the kitchen. Yet, these are necessities for the Mission to function. We are concerned that the sanctuary ceiling will collapse due to leaks and that the kitchen is far out of code. Your help will make possible the continuing work of the Urban Mission.
