EAST OHIO NEWS

Statement From The Ohio Council of Churches About The Election:
Politics often generates polarizing rhetoric and strong feelings. While this is an expected part of political campaigns, once votes are cast, our nation must come together for the common good.  The historic possibility of electing the first African-American president or the first female vice-president should bring joy that our nation has made great strides. We have experienced an unprecedented level of citizen participation throughout this campaign. However, many of us confess some fear and anxiety about potentially destructive responses to the outcome of the election which could further divide us. Might we instead, continue to channel these vast hope-filled energies and longings toward good will in renewing public life? We, therefore, call on the people of Ohio to join us in a commitment to respect one another, to honor our differences and to live and work together in meaningful ways. We, the Ohio Council of Churches, in witness to our faith and celebration of our oneness in the body of Christ, pray for reconciliation and peace in Ohio's cities and villages, regardless of the outcome of our electoral process.  This statement is signed by: The Rev. Rebecca J. Tollefson, Executive Director of The Ohio Council of Churches; The Rev. Vincent T. Frosh, African Methodist Episcopal Church, Mid-Atlantic One District; The Rev. Mini-van

Camp Aldersgate says Thank You!

The Camp Aldersgate staff extended a big camp “Thank You” to the Park Family for their generous donation of a mini-van that replaced the old camp truck that went out of commission just prior to the 2008 summer camp season.   The new minivan easily filled the need for a new passenger vehicle, allowing the staff to focus other funds towards purchasing a maintenance truck with hauling and snow removal capabilities.

The van is just one of many greatly appreciated gifts received this year.  Among donations were: board games, sleeping bags, power tools, lumber, costumes, a donation from Scio United Methodist Church for a new entrance sign, other financial gifts, a TV/VCR/DVD combo, Bibles and scaffolding compliments of Lowes.

This past spring Aldersgate also received a very generous donation of 1,500 hours of labor from a NOMADS group.  While at camp for three weeks, five couples renovated the bathrooms in the cottage, put in a new flower bed, planted flowers, cleaned, painted, filed, and completed many other tasks.  Thank you NOMADS!

Aldersgate also gave thanks to those who contributed to Aldersgate by using www.goodsearch.com.  The pennies donated by your web searches added up quickly. To find out more go to www.goodsearch.com

The staff of ALdersgate gives thanks for these gifts and assures the donors that they well cared for and well used as part of the mission and ministry of Camp Aldersgate.
