Racial Ethnic Ministries

141 SOW

RACIAL ETHNIC MINISTRIES 141 SOW (Sermons of Wesley) 141 SOW (Sermons of Wesley) is a pilot project developed by Dr. Gloria Brown, director of Racial-Ethnic Ministries. The project began in January, 2010. In this project, selected pastors provide in-depth instruction on the sermons of John Wesley.  The project was born out of the need for racial-ethnic churches to be strengthened via coming to better understand the underpinnings of Methodism.

In interactive sermon lesson settings, participating pastors provide lucid explanations of sermon content and suggest ways for participants to transfer the learning to church work and everyday life.  All are welcome to participate but church leaders (clergy and laity) are especially urged to engage in the study of these sermons. The project is currently supported by the General Board of Discipleship, the East Ohio Conference (i.e., Commission on Religion and Race, Committee on Racial-Ethnic Empowerment), and North Coast, Firelands, and Canal Districts.

*John Wesley (1703-1791) founded Methodism.
A prolific writer, he printed several volumes of his sermons during his lifetime.
The published sermons either were rewritten from ones that he had preached
or were written specifically for print.
