Last weekend, May 14-15, First UMC, New Philadelphia (Tuscarawas District) made a difference in theit community by participating in the second annual “Change the World” weekend. Individuals helped with a Habitat build, a clean up at a wilderness center, a family fun day at Tuscora park, a clothing and soup giveaway, and a bicycle repair and giveaway project. By the end of the day 215 individuals had participated in the various service projects that were set up throughout New Philadelphia.
“Change the World Sunday was amazing. I was thrilled to see so many of our people actively engaged with helping others,” commented First’s pastor, the Rev. Dr. Steve Bailey. “We welcomed several new friends who shared in the projects with us. One new family joined us for worship and the meal which followed. People already are talking about next year, as well as how to continue reaching out in new ways. I hope more congregations will ‘Rethink Church’ and join the effort to reach new people with Christ's love."
