THREE RIVERS DISTRICT
The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose PURPOSE is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship, and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.
Our fall district meeting met at Roscoe UMC on September 17, 2016. We had special music, a skit by the mission team and reports from the officers. The offering was divided between the United Methodist Community Centers in Youngstown and Warren, OH and Hope House in
Haiti. We had communion, titled "All Around the World." Rev. Lauren Miller led us in presenting the breads from around the world. It was very interesting as six breads were shared.
We closed out 2016 with a afternoon retreat in November with the Rev. Valarie Stultz. This session of spiritual refreshment and reflection was held at Gay Street UMC in Mt. Vernon. Her message was "Jesus and the Woman at the Well."
As we enter into 2017 we still need to fill at least three more offices. We have lost a member of the mission team due to illness. Two of the vacancies are currently being filled by officers who have agreed to continue until someone can be found to replace them. Helen Ott has stepped into the president's position, temporarily.
The theme for our spring program to be held on April 1, 2017 is "Grace." It will be held at the Danville UMC. Registrations have gone out to the local churches and UM Women Units in the March issue of the Current, the newsletter for The Three Rivers District. We will have special music, reports from the officers and our speaker will be Rev. Lauren Miller. Her topic will be on human trafficking.
One-half the offering will be given towards human trafficking awareness and the other half will go to our pledge. We will have a memorial candle burning, recognize reading program participants and 5-star units as well as rainbow units. All will receive a certificate for each area
We are already making plans about the fall meeting and a continuation of the theme for "Grace" which serendipitously will be held at Coshocton Grace UMC.
