MISSIONS & COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
October 24-30 at multiple churches in the East Ohio Conference
The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) continues to help those impacted by the deadly historic flooding in eastern Kentucky and has already delivered approximately 3,000 UMCOR cleaning kits to affected areas of the state. To assist in replenishing its depleted kit inventory, UMCOR is asking conferences, particularly those in the mid-west and northeastern regions of the country, to donate cleaning kits.
This is your chance to do hands-on mission work and help the flooding victims you see profiled on local and national news. Be creative by forming partnerships with schools, libraries, other churches, and service agencies in your community to assemble cleaning kits. Or you can donate the items that make up the kits. Donations will then be delivered to the Eastbrook Mission Barn in Pennsylvania. The district that donates the most cleaning kits or items will receive a $500 UMVIM scholarship for someone who wants to be a part of a disaster team deployment!
Please note that we are planning a second collection drive for Midwest Mission Distribution Center (MMDC) the week of November 28 - December 4. MMDC has requested UMCOR cleaning kits and hygiene kits (or the items that go into them), baby diapers, simple musical instruments, and sports balls. Drop-off locations will be announced soon, we just wanted to let you know about both donation drives so that you can decide whether to collect items for both or just focus on one.
UMCOR Cleaning Kit Items
Additional guidelines from UMCOR:
Visit the UMCOR webpage for more information about Cleaning Kits. And remember, if you can’t put to together complete kits, that’s ok! Eastbrook will take items that go into the kits as long as it fits the description listed above. You can also donate the cost of a kit ($75) to Eastbrook by using Fund 9918. For directions on how to donate online or by check, click here.
