DISCIPLESHIP MINISTRIES
The Office of Discipleship Ministries exists to cultivate a culture of everyday discipleship across the Ohio Episcopal Area—helping people follow Jesus in daily life and join God's mission in their communities, celebrating that each person is uniquely called, gifted, and needed. We believe God has placed each of us, and each faith community, in our particular locations for such a time as this; our work is to help uncover what God is calling forth and to joyfully walk alongside you.
There's a shift happening in the church right now. Quietly, expressions of faith are becoming less about polished programs and more about authentic, relational ministry. Less about maintaining systems and more about cultivating healthy environments where discipleship can grow.
For many years, churches measured success through attendance, programming, or activity. But a growing number of leaders are beginning to ask deeper questions:
We believe those questions are best answered through healthy environments where people are free to rediscover passion, purpose, and participation in God's work. This work is deeply relational. Healthy discipleship is not bound to one system or strategy. It remains open, collaborative, responsive to the movement of the Holy Spirit, and willing to faithfully experiment as we learn together.
Like seeds planted in good soil, transformation happens slowly through listening, storytelling, trust, faithful presence, and shared learning.
Because discipleship is not a department of the church, it is the foundation.
Cultivate Discipleship — Helping churches formulate healthy cultures where people follow Jesus in everyday life through practical discipleship practices and the SEED framework (Seek • Engage • Equip • Deploy).
Develop Leaders — Training events, cohorts, coaching, and Discipleship Learning Communities.
Strengthen Congregations — Supporting church revitalization and congregational development by helping congregations rediscover purpose, participation, and mission.
Create Practical Resources — Articles, videos, podcasts, discussion guides, and tools designed to help leaders and congregations cultivate and practice everyday discipleship.
Foster Collaboration & Innovation — Working alongside conference ministries, districts, and local churches to explore new ideas, share stories, and encourage faithful experimentation.
The work of discipleship belongs to all of us. Together, let's cultivate healthy churches, strengthen communities, and faithfully follow where God is leading. Our goal isn't simply to provide programs or resources. It's to cultivate churches that are learning, experimenting, and discovering together what it means to follow Jesus in everyday life.
