Clergy Serving 100% Time and 75% Time
Pastors serving 100% time & 75% time (¾-time) are eligible for the Clergy Retirement Security Program (CRSP). The East Ohio Conference Treasurer’s office will continue billing for the Defined Benefit (DB) & Defined Contribution (DC) costs for CRSP to the local church (reference your charge conference worksheet for the calculations). The changes in CRSP DC require that the pastor contribute 1% of total compensation (salary + housing) to receive the full 3% defined contribution by the church. If the pastor chooses to waive their personal contributions to UMPIP, they will receive 2% contribution to DC.
Clergy Serving 50% Time and 25% Time
Pastors serving 50% time (½-time) and 25% time (¼-time) are not eligible for the Clergy Retirement Security Program (CRSP).
The United Methodist Personal Investment Plan (UMPIP) is offered by the General Board of Pension & Health Benefits and is designed to accept both pastors’ personal contributions, as well as employer (church) contributions.
Churches wishing to sponsor UMPIP for clergy serving 50% time (½-time) or 25% time (¼-time) must complete an UMPIP Adoption Agreement for Local Church for Clergy. Instructions for completing the UMPIP Adoption Agreement can be found here. The Agreement must be returned to, and accepted by, the General Board of Pension & Health Benefits.
If you have questions regarding UMPIP, please send an e-mail to Robin Whitacre, Benefits manager.
