UWF Sunday - Remember the Past, Embrace the Present, Transform the Future

Below are suggestions of material that may be used for UWF Sunday, 2020. We continue focusing on the 150th anniversary of UMW with our two-year theme: Remember the Past, Embrace the Present, Transform the Future. This year we are looking at one of the Mission Focus Issues, “Maternal and Child Health.”

Remember, too, that Isabella Thoburn and Dr. Clara Swain traveled to India for the expressed purpose of ministering and educating women and children.  That established the foundation for our purpose to minister to women, children and youth today.

Also included below are samples of worship elements. All materials may be altered or adapted to suit your particular program or the worship style of your church. We encourage you to develop your own programs and share them with us. Feel free to contact me if you have questions or require help in any way.

Scriptures
The emphasis is “Maternal and Infant Health” focusing on maternal and infant mortality.

• Psalm 127:3: Children are a gift from the Lord
  
• Mark 5:21-43: Jesus heals Jairus’ daughter and the woman bleeding for 12 years
  
• Matthew 10:13-16: Jesus blesses the children

These passages show God’s love for children and Jesus’ concern for women and children.

Messages

• Short drama based on Mark 5:21-43 (May be used provided the author is acknowledged. Directions for acknowledgement are included.)

Other topics to talk about may include:

• “No one is beyond the loving touch of Jesus”,
• “Jesus cares equally for all regardless of status or gender",
• Or a guest speaker may be invited to talk about infant and maternal mortality in the U.S.

Children’s Messages

• Using Psalm 127:3: Bring a wrapped gift, talk about how God loves them and about what might be in the gift that would be from God. Let the kids respond. When it’s time to open the gift, have a mirror in the bottom and let each look in to see that he or she is a gift from God.
• Teach the children the song “Jesus Loves the Little Children”.
• Message Using Matthew 19:13-15

May the majesty of the God who created us all equal,
the love of His Son who died for us all,
and the Spirit of Life who resides in us all,
watch over you all and give you peace. Amen.
