STRATEGIC MINISTRIES

Coaching

The International Coach Federation (ICF) defines coaching as “partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.”

The ICF adheres to a form of coaching that honors the person being coached as the expert in his/her life and work and believes that every person is creative, resourceful and whole.

Coaching ...

  • Asks difficult questions in an appropriate and productive manner.
  • Assists in identifying obstacles that are preventing forward movement toward goals.
  • Reflects honest opinions.
  • Allows for someone in your life who believes in you.
  • Helps you design your future.
  • Holds you accountable to your own goals and success.
  • Is a place to turn when it’s accomplishment time.

Coaches …

  • Discover, clarify and align with what the person being coached wants to achieve.
  • Encourage the person being coached to self-discovery.
  • Elicit the person being coached to generate solutions and strategies.
  • Hold the person being coached responsible and accountable.

How to Find a Coach

If you are interested in being coached, call Beth Ortiz at (800) 831-3972 ext. 129 or send an e-mail.

How to Become a Coach

In the East Ohio Conference, we offer to those interested in coaching the following training process to provide knowledge of and experience with the different models of coaching:

  • Read the book The Coach Model for Christian Leaders by Keith Webb (2019 edition)
  • Fully Participate in an EOC Coach Training Cohort
  • Have 20 hours of coaching experience in a coaching triad
  • Complete two sessions of coach training with an EOC Mentor Coach

NOTE: The process outlined above does not lead to any certification with a coaching organization or licensing body but does provide a foundation for coaching.
